What a day today has been. I woke up thinking that my biggest stress would be driving over the Sanitam Pass after the first snow of the winter. I spent the last few days on a business trip in Sunriver. Yesterday and today it was really icy and cold. It snowed, then thawed, then froze. This morning after breakfast I was walking to a meeting and slipped on a patch of ice. I fell back on my butt and elbow pretty hard. Hard enough that I was concerned. My first thought was the baby, and I just hoped I could get him to move by poking him. After a couple painfully long minutes, I felt a small nudge. I still didn't feel comfortable though, I wanted to get home. So I packed up and decided to head home and brave the Pass.
After some phone calls to family, I called my doctor, who said to go to St. Vincent's to be monitored. At this point I was feeling the baby move pretty regularly, but they wanted to be sure, and I wanted some piece of mind. Luckily, the protocol 4 hour monitoring was waved, and they only monitored me for an hour at which point the doctor said the baby was doing great. They said the baby would get an "A" for how well his heart rate was. Talk about a relief for Brant and me. And what a wonderful hour it was listening to our little boy's heartbeat. I will say that it was nice meeting some of the nurses at the hospital where I will deliver. Our nurse was especially friendly, helpful, and comforting.
I'm just glad today is done, that this weekend is over, and we can get back into the swing of our routine. I know some other family members are feeling the same way.
Now, I need to discourage Brant from making me wear a helmet and wrapping me in bubble wrap for the remainder of the pregnancy.
5 month hiatus over?

Train! What are we going to do with you. I'm glad you both are ok.
ReplyDeleteWelcome home! What a scary event, but I am glad you got to hear your boy's heartbeat. Isn't that a wonderful sound? :) Can Brant hear it by laying his head on your belly yet? Justin really enjoyed that and it was neat to give him that "gift" of something he could experience that I couldn't.
ReplyDeleteGlad you all are ok!
